Happily we found that the karaoke singing was of a higher and more enthusiastic standard than normally we encounter.  Well done, guys!

Another slightly unusual aspect of the event was the focus on country music.  Both Nat and Dave are country music afficianados, so we ensured plenty of good country music was played.  It’s a puzzle to me why country music isn’t more popular than it is, as some of the country singers have terrific voices and many of the songs are quite catchy and meaningful.

It goes without saying that the event proved to be a huge success.  Wonderful people;  wonderful music;  and a great venue.

Well done to the Brisbane and Gold Coast jukebox and karaoke hire team, who once again succeeded in their mission to provide top flight entertainment at reasonable prices.  Hmm, this almost sounds like a bit of advertising blurb, but facts are facts, no matter how the mustard is cut!       A well sung karaoke song is a joy to hear.

Kylie and Caitlin had a double header celebration – mother and daughter celebrated their 40th and 21st birthdays respectively!

Because of the wide diversity of ages attending, the music covered a wide spectrum of tastes and time periods.  Intermittent spots of karaoke were sung by the revelers in between their bouts of happy frolicing.

All in all, the event was a great success and congrats must go to the Brisbane and Gold Coast karaoke DJ and jukebox hire people who handled the merry crowd perfectly.  And even bigger congrats must go to both Kylie & Caitlin for their milestone birthdays and for being such nice people!

Yet despite the terrible weather, Kara and Michael’s wedding reception at Greenbank turned out surprisingly well.  Sure, the outdoor grassy dance floor turned into mud, yet people kept dancing and having a good time.  It really showed that at a party, more important than anything else is the attitude of the people.  At Greenbank, it would’ve been easy to have cut the function short given it was an outdoors event -  or even abandoned it altogether.  But no – the show must go on.  It turned out to be a resounding success, as you’ll see from the  YouTube video below.

Apart from that, the Brisbane and Gold Coast karaoke jukebox hire team had a moderate weekend as far as work goes.  Wet weekends always lead to one or cancellations, which is exactly what occurred.  But no big deal, as it’s better to have a bit less work to do on a pouring weekend, rather than being busy.  The roads are always slow as are the load ins and load outs.  Interestingly, both Brisbane and the Gold Coast experienced an eight year drought not so long ago  – given the amount of rain we’ve all received in the past year or two though, this drought is now but a distant memory.  On the upside, the jukebox & karaoke hire team told us that everyone who had been brave enough to order equipment for the weekend seemed to have had a good time.  No bad vibes or disappointments were evident from anyone when the machines were picked up.  Au contraire, everyone seemed happy.

We’ve noticed that Brisbane customers form the main market at the moment, whereas a few weeks ago, the Gold Coast jukebox and karaoke hire figures were way ahead.  We’ve found that the two markets are quite separate – Brisbane is busier during the off season, whilst the Gold Coast makes up a lot of ground during the holiday periods.  Entirely predictable, I guess.  The populations of the Gold Coast ebbs and flows quite remarkably during the year due to the big tourist base that it is.

At a rough guess, I’d say that Brisbane jukebox and karaoke hires represent about seventy five per cent of the market  calculated over a typical twelve month basis.  The Gold Coast jukebox and karaoke hire machines thus represent around a quarter of all hires on an annualised basis.  Breaking these figures down even further, around two thirds of clients want a jukebox hire machine only, whilst about one third want a dual jukebox plus karaoke hire machine.

As far as mobile party DJ hire work goes, similar figures occur.  Maybe a slightly higher percentage of our DJ hire work would occur in Brisbane compared to down south, probably because of the increased competition on the Gold Coast.  Every second man and his dog down there calls himself a DJ, if only to subsidise his or her surfboard riding during the day!

But enough of this.  Onto the subject of Brisbane wedding DJ hire. We attended a wedding reception DJ job at Laidley recently.  This is about an hour’s drive west of Brisbane on the Toowoomba Road.  It turned out to be a  marvellous night in a great outdoor  rural setting and heartiest congratulations must go to the newlweds, Brendan & Lisa, a handsome couple indeed. The DJ also supplied a frozen cocktail slushie hire machine, which turned out to be a great hit with everyone!

The DJ fraternity generally is a friendly, welcoming one, especially to eachother.  We all try to help other mobile or party DJs as best we can, exchanging advice, tips and useful information.  Many DJs post videos on YouTube by way of regular giglogs, with a view to showing their peers how their night went.  This enables or facilitates ideas on how things  could be possibly improved or altered, given the benefit of hindsight.  No job is ever perfect, after all.

Both the Brisbane and Gold Coast jukebox and karaoke DJ hire teams sat around this morning, took a look and discussed the event.  Overall they were pleased with what they saw.  I know other DJs read this blog and hopefully they’ll enjoy taking a look at the giglog as well.  I know the jukebox hire teams from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast got a hoot out of it, mainly through watching some of the interesting dancing!
